Our project relies on Bluetooth 4.0 technology to realize communication between the mobile device (the bracelet) and smartphone.
The Bluetooth 4.0 (Bluetooth LE or Bluetooth Smart BLE) is used for a wireless link with low cost, low power consumption and keeping the range achieved with earlier versions of Bluetooth. This technology is able to reduce the power consumption about 10% of general Bluetooth and can be powered by a battery of the size of a watch battery.
A its outstanding feature is saving energy, a BLE device remains in sleep mode during most of the time and being able to make connections that last only milliseconds, due to being designed for, sporadically, send short information. Thus, it has a peak power consumption of 15 mA but with an average of only 1 uA.
Nowadays, Bluetooth 4.0 is used in some health systems, sports and fitness and proximity sensors.
